Youth Programming

HSGS offers children’s programming for individuals 15 years and younger with the opportunity to expand leadership skills, grow empathy and compassion through hands on volunteering tasks, experiences and programming.

It’s time to Paw-ty! Thank you for choosing HSGS to celebrate your special occasion with HSGS!

Birthday parties are best suited for ages 5 and up!

Your Celebration Package Includes:

  • Private Use:

    • Outdoor event space (Sampson Square).

    • Indoor adoption spaces (front lobby and cat adoption area) for 2 hours.

  • Set-Up & Clean-Up: Assistance provided for setting up and breaking down the party.

  • Adoption Center Tour: A guided tour of our facility.

  • Seating: Tables and chairs for up to 15 guests.

  • Party Games: Activities and enrichment toys benefiting the animals.

  • HSGS Ambassador:

    • Available for 1 hour to guide the tour, assist with games, and answer questions.

  • Goodie Bags: Provided for each party guest.

  • Visits from HSGS adoptable animal(s) when available (requests for visits from specific pets cannot be guaranteed as we must ensure animals visiting are purrfect party guests!)

  • Cost: $250.00-$300.00

Appropriate training must be completed to volunteer in certain departments and some volunteer opportunities are not available to youth.

Due to high demand spots within the Youth Volunteer program are limited.

WHAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE TO YOUTH VOLUNTEERS ON SITE? 

-youth volunteers can volunteer at special events with parent or guardians

-youth volunteers assist in the cat adopt department 

-youth volunteers can help with general adoption center tasks like laundry, dishes, donations 

-youth volunteers can help upkeep HSGS garden and outside maintenance around the adoption center 

- youth volunteers can participate in Nuzzle Buddy program (insert link) 

-youth volunteers can help put together foster supplies, and work on HSGS special event projects 

CURRENT YOUTH OPPORTUNITES:

 *Paws & Claws Club/ Paw-Some Pals: ages: 8-11 kids: Kids will enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the adoption center and partake in tasks like

*Pawsitive Action Club: ages: 12-15: Passionate about helping animals? Young leaders in this club will take an active stance in standing up for the voiceless through various tasks including: adoption marketing, community events,

*JR Vets Club: age: 15-17

*Book Club idea- for adults of kids? Meet once a month in Samson Saure?

Animal Art Camp:

Talk Turkey to Me/Harvest Hounds: join us for a day dedicated to saying thanks to our furry best friends! Guests will help prepare a Thanksgiving day fest for adoptable shelter animals and engage in autumn themed games and activities!

  • Youth volunteers ages 16-18 are permitted without a guardian (Parents must attend the initial orientation for all youth volunteers). Younger children are permitted to assist a parent or guardian who has gone through the volunteer application process and must be supervised at all times. Youth under the age of 18 are not permitted to walk our dogs but may accompany an adult who has completed the necessary training.
