Surrender a Pet

HSGS is a no-kill managed admission animal shelter, meaning we take in animals surrendered by owners as well as animals from other licensed shelters and rescue groups. Please understand that HSGS cannot accept every animal brought to our shelter. We can only accept the surrender of owned pets and transfers from other licensed shelters and rescue groups as our capacity and resources allow.

The first step in the surrender process for dogs and cats is to submit an online questionnaire for your pet.

After receiving your questionnaire, an HSGS staff member will contact you to discuss your situation and schedule an appointment. Appointments are required to surrender a pet.

HSGS offers a free rehoming listing if you would like to try to rehome your animal on your own. You may also list your animal on this page while you wait for your surrender appointment - visit our rehoming program page for details and to submit your listing.

HSGS also accepts small mammals such as ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, and hamsters as our resources allow.

*Please note that the intake team is not in the office on Sunday/Monday and due to the volume of requests it may take a few days to receive a response.
