The Humane Society for Greater Savannah has expanded our food and supply pantry to better assist owned pets in our community. We supplied dog and cat food to Senior Citizens Inc during the months of November and December, serving around 50 senior citizens. We have served residents of Chatham County by participating in mobile food distributions with Second Harvest, where 500-700 individuals and families were able to take home food for themselves and for their pets. We were lucky enough to also give away dog harnesses, vitamins for dogs, and treats. HSGS plans to host four food and supply drives at our facility during January and February for those who need essential supplies for their four-legged companions. Through these Safety Net projects, we are able to reduce the number of pets needing to be surrendered to our shelter. This makes resources and space available for those pets who, as a last resort, need our assistance to find a new home. These lifesaving efforts can only be sustained through generous donations throughout the year.
