There are many ways to help support The Humane Society for Greater Savannah. All funding for HSGS is by private donation from individuals, businesses, trusts, foundations and grants; bequests; special events; and from our “Pick of the Litter” Thrift Shop. We receive NO funding from any government agency and NO money from any national animal welfare organization including the Humane Society of the United States.
The Humane Society for Greater Savannah is an independent, unaffiliated 501(c) 3 organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Give a gift to honor or in memory of a loved one or pet. These donations make thoughtful gifts for occasions such as:
- The birthday or wedding of a friend or family member
- The loss of a friend or loved one who was an animal lover
- The recent loss of a pet
- The anniversary of the day you adopted your beloved pet
Donations can be made to commemorate many different occasions: The recipients of tribute gifts receive a letter from HSGS announcing your gift.
Please become a Forever Friend by joining our monthly giving program! Monthly giving is an easy way to help the Humane Society for Greater Savannah do even more to save lives and help pets all year long. When you become a member of Forever Friends, you are a consistent stream of support that allows us to care for the pets that enter our shelter and offer them a second chance. Your contribution will be automatically charged to your credit card at the same time each month until you cancel. A minimum $5 monthly contribution is required for participation in this life-saving program.
Becoming a Forever Friend is simple and easy! Just pick the amount you would like to be billed to your credit card each month. At the end of the year, we will send you a gift acknowledgement summarizing your donations for the year.
With the monthly support from our Forever Friends, we can make sure the pets in our care receive the medical care, time and attention they need to heal and find their new loving homes. Here are just a few reasons that monthly giving will work for you:
1. It’s affordable! You can spread your contribution out over the year. Monthly giving allows you to give larger annual gifts through smaller monthly payments.
2. It’s convenient! Your gift will be withdrawn and will appear each month on your credit card statement. You avoid the hassle of writing a check and receive a single summary of all of your gifts at the end of the year.
3. It’s flexible! You can choose a donation level that works for you!
Legacy giving makes every dollar go farther. To maximize your charitable giving, as well as fulfill your own financial needs, you can fund the future of the Humane Society for Greater Savannah through your estate planning. Making a gift through your estate is one of the most effective ways to ensure that we can carry on our mission to better the lives of pets and people. The Humane Society for Greater Savannah invites you to join other supporters who have already taken the steps necessary to ensure the future of our organization.
Our newly formed Legacy Society recognizes and honors those donors who have made special arrangements to ensure animals will continue benefiting from their generosity. The decision to include the Humane Society for Greater Savannah in your estate plans shows a sincere commitment to animals and a desire for your legacy of love to continue for years to come.

Critical medical care for our animals is the largest part of the HSGS budget, totaling more than $230,000 each year. It’s where funding for our shelter is always greatly needed. As Savannah’s only Humane Society, many animals arrive at our facility from an uncertain background, with little or no veterinary care, sometimes after roaming and scavenging for months. Our goal is to end the euthanasia of healthy animals and animals with treatable conditions!
The Tyler Medical Care Fund
Named after Tyler who was taken too soon by cancer, this sweet boy never met a stranger ❤️. He had a constant smile on his face and could brighten anyone’s day. We hope that with his legacy, all animals will be able to receive the medical care they need. This in-house fund provides ongoing medical care for 2,200 shelter animals each year. Treatment ranges from antibiotics and vaccinations to testing, spay and neuter surgery, and more. The health and well-being of animals in our shelter is an important part of our mission. The Tyler Medical Care Fund allows us to begin treating animals the moment they arrive at our shelter.
Your gift today will give a shelter pet a second chance, so that they may never live another day without medical care, shelter and most importantly love!
Organizing an event to benefit the Humane Society for Greater Savannah is a great way to give back to your community while having fun with friends and family. Collecting donations at a birthday party or hosting a fundraiser at your business or school are just a few great ideas to help our city's pets.
In order for us to best assist you as you plan your event, we’d like to learn more about your plans! The more we know (and the earlier we know) the better we can support you.
