This holiday season, you can change a life…
just like Capone’s.

The Humane Society for Greater Savannah is the largest no-kill shelter in Georgia outside of Atlanta. This year alone, more than 18,000 animals have come through our doors for essential services - and as a nonprofit, we rely entirely on donors like you to keep this lifesaving work possible.

The Beginning - When Capone was Found

Earlier this year, Capone was found living in a community cat colony, but one thing was clear right away:
he wasn’t feral - he desperately needed help.

He arrived from one of our partner rescues with what looked like a burn on his back. We treated the wound, but healing stalled. Something wasn’t adding up.

Your support helps us say yes when an animal needs more than basic care.

Things Get Worse Before They Get Better

As days and weeks passed, Capone became painfully itchy. Without a suit and cone, he would reopen his wounds over and over.

He was adorable in his little outfit - but he was suffering.

It was time to call in a specialist.

The Diagnosis That Changed Everything

Capone began seeing Dr. Kimberly Smart, a veterinary dermatologist at New River Veterinary Specialists.

After testing and evaluation, we learned what was really going on:

-His “burn” wasn’t a burn at all.
-He had Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex, a chronic inflammatory skin condition.
-The lesions were caused by a severe environmental allergy.

With targeted treatment, Capone finally started to heal - because donors like you allow us to pursue specialty care when animals need it.

The Transformation

After three months of treatment…

-His wounds are completely healed except for a small scar.
-He no longer needs a cone or a suit.
-He is comfortable - maybe for the first time in years.

Capone is now loving life in his birthday suit again.
And the BEST news? He’s officially available for adoption!

The Cat Behind the Story

Capone has won the hearts of everyone here.

He is:
-unbelievably snuggly
-wildly social
-a firm believer in zero personal space
-easygoing and gentle

He will need daily medication and follow-up dermatology care, but otherwise he is the chillest guy around.

Why Your Gift Matters Today

Capone’s recovery - and thousands of others each year - is only possible because people like you and your support of our animals.

On average, it costs over $400 per animal to provide:

-veterinary care
-spay/neuter
-food & enrichment
-safe shelter
-and the medical treatments that make stories like Capone’s possible

Adoption fees average just $85.
