Savannah, GA – Humane Society: So many ways to help
Lynn Gensamer, Executive Director

Thanks to everyone who is helping to spread the word about “Pick of the Litter”, our thrift shop.  Donating “gently-used” items and taking advantage of the shop’s fabulous deals are great ways to support the Humane Society. The shop is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and a small staff who are responsible for processing donations and making pick-ups. All proceeds from shop sales go toward animal care and shelter operations. Sales from the thrift shop account for about 20% of the HSGS operating budget. If you are a regular, we appreciate your business. If you haven’t yet visit the shop, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Do you know that we have a second re-sale shop? “Best in Show” Boutique is the brain-child and pet project (pun intended) of Mary Peabody, long-standing volunteer, former HSGS Board member and champion of our community low-cost spay and neuter clinic project. Through the generosity of Terri O’Neil and her daughter Stephanie Stroud, “Best in Show” is located in 37th @ Abercorn Antiques. Best sellers include vintage and new jewelry, crystal and silver, designer handbags and sunglasses, antiques, and unusual collectibles and books. All items have been donated to HSGS. We also benefit from the expertise of other pet lovers: Charlie Brown (C.H. Brown Antiques and Silver) and Amanda and Chris Everard (Everard and Co. Auctions and Appraisals). And… thanks to the support of Bull Street Auction owners Lisa and Craig Arcos, items like rugs, good furniture, unique and antique items and anything mid-century modern are sold at its regular Sunday auctions. Mary reports that there is always plenty of interest and that sales are brisk and that even more money could be raised for HSGS if more items were donated. Of course, all donations are fully tax-deductible. Mary would be happy to talk with you about a donation, arrange a meeting to assess its potential and to arrange for a pick-up. She can be reached directly on her cell, 663-0974. Please remember that donating to HSGS, whether to “Best in Show” or “Pick of the Litter”, provides critical financial support for the pets in our care.
