Operation New Hope

Operation New Hope is a partnership between the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office and the Humane Society for Greater Savannah. The goal of Operation New Hope is to give dogs who need a bit of polishing and socialization a chance to be more successful in a new home and to reduce recidivism rates by giving inmates the opportunity to acquire new transferable skills and experience accountability.

Ninety-five percent of the dogs that complete the Operation New Hope program have found new loving homes.  And, the recidivism rate among ONH inmate participants is more than 75% lower than that of the general jail population.

Bill BaileyI don't know, but I have seen some other counties in GA and FL where they employee inmates at their shelters to care for care for the animals.

Nicholas Alexander RiveraI suggest to anyone looking to adopt a dog to deffintly look into any pup that has been in operation new hope. We got our big black lab "Romeo" from a shelter and he completed this program. He's is one of the most obedient dogs I've ever met. Loyal, Tricks, protective, and always hungry lol. The inmate who trained him did outstanding job and deffintly should look into a career that involves training dogs because you can deffintly see the hard work he did to get our dog prepped for the big world. Couldn't have asked for a better dog and we owe it all to this program.
