Evacuation

It's Hurricane Season, do you have an evacuation plan for your pet?

It is essential to plan ahead for your family and your pet in case of an emergency.  Start by deciding where you will go.  Family or friends are good options.  If necessary, identify a city or town outside the threatened area and select a hotel there.  Click here for a list of hotels that accept pets.

As part of your evacuation plan you should have the following items ready or easily at hand in case of a hurricane, fire, or other emergency:

  • Ample supply of food and bottled water
  • Food and water bowls
  • Medication (heartworm, flea preventative, and any other medications your pet needs)
  • Carrier or crate
  • Blankets and towels
  • Pet first aid kit
  • A copy of your pets vet record and emergency contact number
  • A photo of your pet in case you get separated
  • Get your pet microchipped (We do this at the shelter for $20 and it can help reunite you with your pet if you get separated)
